A family workshop

Kalligrafi af Marius Guldager med H.C. Andersens ord: "I Danmark er jeg født – der har jeg hjemme – derfra min verden går"
Calligraphy by Marius Guldager · “In Denmark I was born — there is my home — from there my world unfolds”

Copenhagen Cards is a family-owned Danish company built on a simple idea: that a greeting card can hold both a picture and a story.

The motifs are based on watercolours by Marius Guldager (1927–2014) from Randers. Through a long series of illustrations for Hans Christian Andersen's fairy tales he created his own visual universe, where the poetry, humour and contemplation of the tales find new life. Each motif is selected with the wish to carry forward this storytelling tradition in a new form.

The Guldager family can trace its roots back to Christian Gullager (1759–1826), the Danish-born portrait painter who emigrated to the United States and, among others, portrayed George Washington. He is also counted among the artists who contributed to the design of the American eagle in the Great Seal of the United States.

The cards are printed on heavy-quality paper and delivered with an envelope as well as a small booklet containing the accompanying fairy tale. In addition, access to a recorded audiobook is included, which can be played directly in the browser on computer, phone or tablet.

In this way the card becomes not merely a greeting, but a fairytale experience to be shared with someone you hold dear.

Enjoy the fairy tale.

Yours sincerely
Mikkel Guldager
